Chicago made international headlines in January when the rat hole was posted online. News of this concrete death mask spread quickly, and soon the site became a shrine, attracting many visitors and offerings, until the city repaired the sidewalk weeks later.
But nature’s homage to this brave Chicago resident was just one of many, which represent the teeming life—and death—of this great city. I’ve captured other local examples which deserve at least some measure of the fame and glory that Chicago’s first great “street artist” attained.
